A payment split is the automatic division of a sale's amount between two or more parties, such as the main seller, an affiliate, a co-producer, or a partner platform, made at the moment the payment is processed, without requiring a manual transfer afterward.

It's common in affiliate and co-production operations, where more than one party needs to receive a share of each approved sale.

How it shows up in practice

You sell a course in partnership with an affiliate. When a sale closes through their link, the amount needs to split automatically between you and the partner at processing time. If you have to do the transfer manually later, you lose time and open space for error.
